Chris knows there’s something out there better for her. How can she not be destined for greatness?

When the chance to prove her worth comes along, she can hardly turn it down… Just a pity the only person she gets for company is a mysterious obnoxious masked fellow who just can’t seem to leave her alone.

Rumplestiltskin is an intriguing twist to the classic fairy tale which was published in Grimm’s Fairy Tales in 1812. H0lyhandgrenade brings modern and Victorian features together in a perfect combination of corsets, swords, looms, and motorcycles.

The readers follow Chris through a series of unfortunate events, leading her into the well-known plot of Rumplestiltskin. However, knowing the original story will not help you in H0ly’s rendition. Each page will keep you guessing, each character growing more and more loveable with each passing page.

H0ly recreates Rumplestiltskin as part of a mythical race called the Fairs. What is fascinating (and absolutely irritating) about this race is their use of masks. H0ly refuses to let the readers see the face of the Fairs, and it will drive you insane (especially in the first chapter)!

Speech bubbles

*Curse those speech bubbles!

The artwork is black and white, but don’t let that throw you off! The ink work is beautifully done with sharp, clear lines making the images very appealing. Too many times to count, artists create backgrounds that are too detailed, and outfits with so many patterns you go cross-eyed. H0ly creates an image that is pleasing to the eye and easy to decipher where the character begins and the background ends.

*Ch.1 pg. 44 demonstrates the simplistic art style, but still manages to capture the scenes beautifully with large black and white spaces.

If you enjoy a good twist to classic fairy tales, then you will certainly enjoy this web comic. The characters are witty, with snide comments

and (attempts at) quick remarks

H0lyhandgrenade also throws in a few comments here and there, adding some humour to even the more serious scenes.
